Local Property Notes:
Le Sud is situated on the northern boundary of the department of Lot, a region of gently rolling farmland, vines and walnut groves, broken by the wide fertile valley of the Dordogne and its tributaries. Enjoy leafy lanes by car, bicycle, horseback or on foot. Glimpse meadows and woodlands rich in flora and fauna. Watersports enthusiasts will love the clear, swift waters for canoe, kayak and boating while lovers of fishing will find an abundance of trout and pike. The region has been blessed with a fine historical heritage. Between Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne with its romanesque church and Souillac with its superb abbey church of St. Mary the River Dordogne winds its way between the chateaux of Montal, Castelnau, Belcastel and La Treyne. There are picturesque villages such as Carennac, Gluges and Meyronne, each with its fine architecture so typical of Quercy. On both banks rise sheer limestone cliffs to the causses of Gramat and Martel. Here, set amongst rugged scenery, are the stunning villages of Loubressac, Curemonte, Autoir and, of course, the world famous Rocamadour. Each season has so much to offer. Spring and Autumn bring glorious sunny days in which to explore the landscape. The hot days of summer are forever popular with sun-worshippers and water-lovers. Whatever the season, here in The kitchen of France, you can be assured of excellent food. Gastronomical delights include duck, foie gras, truffles, asparagus, walnuts and strawberries.
