Villa in the hills of Andalucia, sleeps six, private pool. 50mins. from Malaga airport, 25 mins. from the sea.
Bajo La Maroma just outside Canillas de Aceituno, is just outside the Sierra Tejeda National Reserve, 50 min from Malaga airport and 25 mins. from the coastal resort of Torre del Mar.
Our villa is reached by a 2km road (the last 100m rough), and has views onto vineyards, citrus groves and natural hillsides. The majestic peak of Mount Maroma, stands 2065m above. We call our villa Bajo la Maroma, (beneath Maroma).
Things to do
Locally, walk to the bat cave, passing an old mill and pool. Swim in a pool on the road to Sedella. There is a series of 5 guides, which describe many other walks in the local area.
An Aqua Park, scuba diving, horse riding, go-karting . pedalos, jet-ski and golf are all within 25 mins. Visit awesome caves in Nerja. Visit the Alpujarras, Antequerra with its castle and newly opened olive-oil museum. See 1000s of flamingos in Fuente de las Piedras, watch (and eat), fresh trout at Rio Frio and bathe in hot springs at Alhama on your way to Granada, with its magnificent Alhambra Palace and Sierra Nevada Ski Resort. Ronda, Seville, Cordoba, Marbella and Gibraltar are also all within reach.
Of course you can always go nowhere! In spring listen to hoopoo, frogs and nightingales, find wild iris, smell the orange blossom; in summer swim in the pool, sunbathe, or sit in the shade of the carob tree, hear the goats and sheep, with their bells, as they meander across the hillsides and watch shooting stars by night
Our villa has 3 bedrooms (1 double, 2 twin), lounge, dining area, kitchen and bathroom.
It is well equipped and simply furnished. There are terracotta patios to the front and beside the private swimming pool, and a rear yard. There are several other villas nearby but the house stands within about 1.5 acres.
The villa has high vaulted, beamed ceilings, pine doors and window shutters and has the traditional large carob tree shading the centre of the terracotta-tiled patio. Bottled gas is used for heating, water heating and the cooker hob. There are two gas heaters and a fire but you will find the villa cold in bad weather if you are used to central heating. The kitchen is well equipped with cooking and tableware, including electric kettle, toaster, sandwich maker, food processor and coffee maker. There is a gas hob, a combination convection/grill/microwave oven, a fridge/freezer, an iron and board, and all the necessary cleaning equipment. There is no washer or dish-washer.
The bathroom has bath and simple shower, loo, bidet and basin.
All bedrooms have large built-in pine wardrobes.
The dining area has a large extendable table and six chairs. There are games, some outdoor toys, cassettes, CDs and a CD/tape/radio. There is an information file and many books. There is no TV or phone.
Outdoors, there are table and chairs, picnic and garden bench, parasol, and sun-loungers. There is a built-in BBQ next to the pool.
