  • Any person that has used a sunbed within the last 24 hours will not be allowed to use our tanning equipment.

  • All new customers that have never used tanning equipment before will be advised to only tan for 3 minutes (regardless of their skin type). New customers that have used tanning equipment elsewhere will be advised to only tan for 6 minutes.

  • Customers will be advised not to tan for longer than 6 minutes on a re-tubed piece of tanning equipment. Customers with skin type 3 or 4 who wish to tan for longer will be able to do so provided they sign a disclaimer and will be allowed to tan for a maximum of 9 minutes only. This restriction will be in place for the first 100 hours after the tanning equipment has been retubed. Even after the first 100 minutes Team Members must still remind customers that the equipment will still be very strong.

  • All new customers must be shown the controls on all tanning equipment by a Team Member.

Skin Types!

As a general rule our skin type can be divided into four categories:

  • Skin Type 1: You are advised not to use tanning equipment. People with very fair skin and often have red hair and  freckles who cannot tan and burn in sunlight. They do not produce any melanin.

  • Skin Type 2: You are advised to tan for a maximum of 9 minutes. People with fair skin and who often burn easily during the early stages of tanning. They are advised to be patient and build up their tan starting off with minimum session times such as 6 minutes.

  • Skin Type 3:  You are advised to tan for a maximum of 12 minutes. People with brownish white skin who tan easily but can still burn if over exposed to sunlight. They should respect the fact they can still burn if they don’t have a base tan and are advised to tan for a maximum of 9 minutes until a good base tan is achieved.

  • Skin Type 4: You are advised never to tan for more than 15 minutes and to leave at least 48 hours between tanning sessions. People with dark skin who can tan easily and hardly ever burn but even so need to be careful they don’t go through prolonged over exposure. Suggested tanning session times would be 12 and 15 mins.

Benefits of using sunbeds!

There are many health benefits when you tan responsibly. Sunlight manufactures Vitamin D in your body which has a lot of health benefits:

  • More Vitamin D in your body  helps your bones: Your body produces vitamin D when sunlight shines on your skin. This vitamin D then enables your bones to absorb calcium which makes them stronger and less brittle. This helps against arthritis and osteoporosis.

  • Good for your mood: Sun exposure boosts the feel-good brain chemical serotonin, which is why you feel better after spending some time in the sun. Light therapy has long been the go-to treatment for seasonal affective disorder and depression.

  • Vitamin D helps with your immune system: Vitamin D acts like a switch in your body, turning certain genes and processes on or off to help keep you healthy. It travels to many parts of your body: like your bones, intestines, brain, and immune cells, where it connects to special receptors. This connection activates genes that respond to Vitamin D. Having enough Vitamin D helps your immune system work better. It turns on important parts of your immune response that fight off germs quickly, often stopping infections before they start.

  • Prevents burning: Exposure to UV (in particular UVB) stimulates the production of more melanin in your skin which absorbs the UVA oxidising it to become tanned. The more melanin there is for the UVA to oxidise the less chance here is of it penetrating deep into your skin and burning you. Your tanned skin which is tougher than non-tanned skin also deflects more UV further reducing the chances of burning.

  • Vitamin D in your body provides muscle energy: Vitamin D helps your cells make energy by supporting the mitochondria—tiny engines in your cells that use sugar and oxygen to produce ATP, the fuel your muscles need. If your body can’t make enough ATP after exercise, your muscles get tired. Studies show that higher levels of Vitamin D can reduce long-term tiredness and fatigue.
